WHO AM I?
I opened my eyes to the world on April 24, 1968
Even at that time, it was obvious that I would become a doctor. I was as quiet as a church mouse during
my stay at the hospital. But, when we got home, of course, I started to cry. My family said that “there is a
hidden cause here.” Affected by the fact that I was quite at the hospital but started to cry at home; my
family considered giving me a name reflecting this situation. But, at the end, they agreed on Hüseyin.
I had a nice childhood in Mersin. I completed my primary and secondary education and even the high
school in Mersin. In 1986, I started my education at Akdeniz University after being eligible to attend the
medical faculty I dreamed of. 6 years passed with this enthusiasm and motivation. It wasn't easy, of
course, but the enthusiasm is more important than anything else.
1992 was also very important for me. In the corridors of Burdur-Bucak State Hospital, I now had the
patients calling out “Doctor”. Yes, I started my career as a physician in 1992. After three years there, I
started to work as a general surgery assistant at another hospital, that is, Dışkapı SSK Hospital. The days
there were hard but good. Technology was not developed yet, of course, we did not have a website yet,
my patients were coming to me upon the advice of their friends, that is, by word of mouth. Google did
not exist at that time, so you couldn’t search the Internet for a physician. After working for 5 years at
Dışkapı SSK Hospital, I went to Kütahya in 2000. My career continued as a General Surgery Specialist at
Kütahya Tavşanlı Hospital. After two years of Kütahya adventure, I missed the south, so I went back to
Antalya.
Between 2002 and 2007, I worked as a general surgery specialist at different private hospitals in Antalya
and Konya. The more you visit, the more people and the more different cases you see. Of course, thanks
to all these, I got some more experience. People say “who knows much, the one who travels much or the
one who reads much?” I think that “the one who has more experience knows much.” That's why I went
to Kazakhstan in 2007. I got a good offer from a nice hospital. This was an unmissable opportunity for me
to develop myself and gain more experience. After working at a private hospital in Kazakhstan for a few
years, I returned to the south, that is, Antalya. As I already said, “to miss is human.”
My adventure in Antalya continued until 2017 when I decided to come to İstanbul. I travel, learn, attend
seminars, get certificates, and gain new experiences. I said to myself that I shouldn’t skip İstanbul while
advancing in my career. So, my journey continued at Gebze-Pendik Yüzyıl Hospital in İstanbul. I have
been doing obesity and metabolic surgery for about 10 years, and so far, none of my patients have died.
They all lost weight in a healthy way.
As of 2019, I am working at Medicana Avcılar Hospital as well as Ataşehir Avicenna Hospital to touch on
the dreams of my patients and make their dreams come true. As a physician, I know that seeing your
patients as your family lies at the bottom of giving confidence to them; I feel this and continue my
career.
